Peoples Millions

Published on Tuesday, November 11th, 2008

Hi Folks

Just wanted to keep you updated re the Peoples Millions Project “Minster Pedal Break”

Meridian TV came today (Tuesday 11th) and did some filming around the area of the project location, High St Car Park, where they were greeted by a large contingent of children complete with bikes from Minster School along with some of the “ladies” cycling group that regularly haunts Monkton Rd car park. Also in attendance were a number of our Parish Councillors plus the Clerk and her deputy.

Yours truly went along to take some pics for the MM archive, as “Snappy” was off doing something else.

Please remember that to win the £50,000 on offer we must poll more votes than our opposion on the evening.

Minster’s project is to be aired on Tues 25th Nov in the 6pm Meridian News program so take special note of the phone number they will broadcast that evening and get dialling. You can vote as many times as you like, remember the more we get the more likely we are to win !!!!

For those who have missed the article on the front page of this months MM then the project aims to enhance the area in and around the public toilets and car park at the bottom of High St. The toilets will be completely refurbished and include baby changing facilities and drinking fountains, the exterior will be clad in black shiplap boarding to enhance its looks within the conservation area, and the grass area will be better landscaped with some professional surgery to the existing trees and the inclusion of picnic benches. There will also be a covered cycle rack for those who require such a facility, as this area is a prime location for such a project along the “Viking Trail” cycle route.

It is also hoped that by upgrading the toilets and surrounding area that it will attract those whom we wish to see in our village, whilst at the same time deterring those who have given the same area some poor press in the past.

SO COME ON EVERYONE - WE NEED YOUR VOTES on TUESDAY 25TH NOVEMBER - WATCH MERIDIAN NEWS AT 6PM AND PICK UP THE PHONE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

PS  If you’re off to Minster’s Late Night Shopping that same evening then visit the stall next to Attwells and they’ll give you the low down on the number to ring when you get back home - see you there

MM November Issue Update

Published on Tuesday, October 21st, 2008

The November issue has gone to print and we will hopefully see it back again by the end of this week.

This is our 98th issue so just one more before we celebrate our centenary.

To help us do so, we are asking for memories and pictures from Jan/Feb 2000 that we can use in the 100th issue in Feb09 (No issue in January).

We can scan photos, or 35mm negatives and slides, so get digging in those boxes under the bed and let us borrow your treasured memories. We promise to take good care of anything we are lent, and we will ensure its safe return as soon as we’ve copied it.

Just contact a team member, our details are on this website or page 2 of every issue

Vey many thanks, in anticipation.

Minster wins Communications Category in KVoY Competiton

Published on Monday, September 8th, 2008

It’s great to be able to report that Minster won the Communications category in this years Kent Village of the Year Competition.
Here is what the lead judge said:
Winner: Minster in Thanet. The lead judge for this category said “if I had to relocate, Minster in Thanet would come top of the list. It has everything going for it and is both a vibrant and inter-active community. Distributing Minster Matters on CD to blind and partially sighted residents is quite a remarkable initiative”.
In summary, the judges said that Minster in Thanet has very good all round communications covering every format.
Further to this Peter Talbot, lead judge, informed the audience that the Minster Matters team have been recommended for 2 other awards, those being:
Kent Volunteer Awards for Volunteering Excellence 2008
and a RNIB Outstanding Achievement of the Year Award 2008

On the back of our success in the KVoY Comp this year, the village will hopefully enter all the categories next year and vie for the title of Kent Village of the Year 2009. So be prepared for us looking for help with this.

Hi All
Just like to say I may be able to move around the village a little easier for a few days, as I have a new car, so I may not get recognised by everyone for a while, and it’s going to beat walking like I’ve had to do for the past fortnight since I sold the old one.
I have no doubt though that it will be a short lived experience, I’m sure word will soon get round as to what vehicle to look out for.

I’ll just say it’s not green and it’s not box shaped.

Amy and I are off to Lenham on Thursday along with the Parish Clerk and Parish Council Chairman, to attend the Kent Village of the Year Awards for 2008.
Minster entered the Communications section this year and we hope our efforts are recognised, we’ll let you all know on Friday if they are. Keep your fingers crossed for us.
